About Us
Back Eddy Bluegrass was formed in late 1999 by a group of veteran musicians from Massachusetts, brought together by friendship and a common love and appreciation of bluegrass music.

Since bursting onto New England's bluegrass scene, Back Eddy Bluegrass has become one of the premier performing bluegrass bands in the region. The band has played to many enthusiastic audiences in a wide variety of venues, including city and town arts council concerts and some of the region's most prestigious bluegrass festivals, such as the Joe Val Bluegrass Festival and The Noppet Hill Bluegrass Festival.

The band lineup of Back Eddy Bluegrass features the dynamic, yet soulful singing of Gayle Dayton (Vocals, Guitar), combined with the high energy vocals of Alex MacLeod (Vocals, Guitar). The band is completed by dynamic mandolinist, Ken Reback (Mandolin, Vocals), the distinctive banjo playing of Joe Deetz (Banjo, Vocals), the tasteful Dobro styling of Stephen Dayton (Resophonic Guitar; a.k.a. Dobro), and the solid, inventive bass playing of Josh Dayton.

The band performs fresh adaptations of contemporary and traditional bluegrass material, its own original songs, and lively instrumentals.  The Back Eddy Bluegrass style of musical arrangement blends two, three and four part vocal harmonies with intricate and powerful instrumental performances.

As a relatively recent cultural phenomenon, bluegrass music has a vitality unrivaled by more traditional styles of music. Back Eddy Bluegrass is proud to be contributing to this distinctly American musical form. We love what we play and believe you'll find this reflected in our performances.
